I'm Confused.

I'm Confused. How is it that some folks can find a video of a Marine singing a song about turning the tables on terrorists much more offensive than videos of terrorists beheading civilians?

I think people want to put their Marines on a pedestal (deservedly so). That one would choose to not be an example of the pride, dignity and honor of the Corps, is what is shocking.

Judging by the laughter and applause garnered by the song, it appears that Marines disagree with you, and do feel that the song represented pride in their corps.

If you listen to the words of the song, or read a transcript, then you know that far from being an anthem praising the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, (you'll need an Arabic to English translater and access to al Qaida to find songs like that) Belile's ballad is the tale of an insurgent ambush foiled by a capable Marine.

Certainly that's worth a little pride, isn't it?

a) who said they find it more offensive?

b) "turning the tables on terrorists" is an interesting interpretation of the lyrics.

a) Judging by the reaction and the amount of sham horror coming from folks over the song who said absolutely nothing about the beheadings. Oh, except for Kos, who so eloquently expressed his sentiments.

b) Have you even listened to the song Chris? According to the lyrics, the titular Hadji Girl led the narrator into an ambush laid by her father and brother. The Marine opened fire only after being fired upon. The lurics are very clear. How else can you interpret it?

If the Secretary of the Navy or high-ranking Marine officers who have spent their life in the armed services was in the room, would the soldier have played the song?

Just because his fellow soldiers enjoyed and laughed doesn't mean it was following the Marine Corp code.
