Judge Edward Cashman

So, let me get this straight. Say I went up to Vermont, found Judge Cashman's wife, and raped her. (Man, it's hard for me to even write that.) I'm not saying I'm going to, this is just a hypothetical. And say that my reason for raping her was simply to prove a point to her husband.

Obviously, I would be a low risk to re-offend because the judge can only have one wife, and I would have already made my point. So, do you think Judge Cashman would sentence me to 60 days, and an anger management program?

My guess, and it is just a guess here, is NO BLEEPIN' WAY! I'd rot in that jailhouse.

I have a question for the judge. If this guy is 'low risk to re-offend', then why does he need treatment at all? How in the world can the State of Vermont classify a child molester, a group with staggering recidivism rates, a 'low risk to re-offend' in the first place? Everywhere else in the country, they put these guys on registries and keep tabs on 'em because they know that most of them will molest again. In Vermont, apparently they give 'em a Get Out of Jail Free Card! How many pedophiles do you think are sprinting to Vermont right now?

So when this bastard molests another child, I'd say that the father of that child has every reason to go directly to the judge and shoot him right between the eyes.

If I were on that jury, I would vote to acquit.

Simply unbelievable.

I think people should also be outraged at Vermont's speaker of the house Gaye Symington for trying to block any actions against Cashman. You can email Symington at: speaker@leg.state.vt.us

this judge is an idiot i hope he goes to hell, 60 days in jail. come on If this was Chicago or LA, NEW YORK, FLORDIA THE GUY WOULD GET 25 TO LIFE I HOPE THIS JUDGE IS DONE. THANK GOD I NEVER WENT TO THAT CRAP HOLE STATE. ID SPIT AT THE FACE OF THAT JUDGE IF I WAS THE PARENTS

The reason Gaye Symington is protecting Edward Cashman could be because an unattractive woman such as Gaye probably doesn't get much attention from men. Along comes Cashman, he pays her a few much needed compliments, she falls for it and a romance happens. If that's not the case, then Cashman is probably blackmailing her. Someone should investage because why in the world would you protect a judge such as this?

Hi, The judge has to be a child molester also. Only a child molester defends another one. As for Gayle Symington, let her come to Missouri with Cashman and neither one would be here long. They are just as sick as the bastards that actually raped that poor defenseless little girl. My wish is that America believed in vigalantes. Then we could all go out and kill the bastards and not do any time for it.

More pieces of the puzzle are coming together. Harlan Sylvester, who is Chairman of the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors which means he's Vermont's most influential Citizen's, is Cashman's brother-in-law!

I guess he rather keep his molesting loving in-law employed rather then get him off the bench. This guy has no guts at all. What a waste.

This so called Judge should be held accountable for the crime of this Child Molester, obviously he is a Sympathizer of the PERVERTED public and thus most probable a child molester himself. God forbid if this molester is a re-offender and there is another victim, Cashman should also be held accountable and face charges, he is backwards, insensitive, and dim-witted a Judge. Obviously he does not have the welfare of little girls in mind. Instead he feels for the evil
spirit. What a JUDGE......... Wake up Vermont do not re-elect this so called Judge and demand for him to resign.

Hello? What about help for that poor child? She has already been sentenced to a life sentence, having to relive every moment that bastard molested her. if she is not in therapy, she will be down the road, will be at risk for being a substance abuser trying to block the pain that nver goes away and Cashman is worried Hulett won't get treatment???? Low risk offender, what in hell does that mean? He won't touch another child? Yeah right. How many laws are enacted with a child's name on it? Megan's, Polly's, Jessica's? The pieces of filth that touched those girls also murdered them, and also had molested other children!! Look at the Carlie Brucia case, if any case warranted the death penalty that was the one and Joseph Smith has been given the death sentence but he is still breathing and probably will for years to come and also the correctional facilty where he will be housed has to protect him from other inmates. The man in this blog that advised there ought to be more vigilantes out there has got a good point. Inmate justice can be a good thing! But if you or walked up to Joseph Smith and shot him we would be given a long sentence!!! I think the only way to assure that they will never hurt another child is to sentence them to life without parole and if they murdered the child automatic death sentence with NO appeals process and also euthanize them like a dog does not make with me. I want them to feel pain and their last moment is filled with serious pain because that is what their victims felt.

The judge should be removed. That way HE'LL have time for rehabilitation of his duties which I THOUGHT was to serve justice! Unfortunately, I'm sure there's probably hundreds if not thousands of very sad cases such as this, some much worse, that perhaps he needs to review.

Just Shoot them both it the fucking head

Posted by: Mark on January 26, 2006 9:54 PM

Donna, don't worry, like you, I've signed the petition. There are two that I know of and I've signed them both.
I also wrote the judge another letter. This one telling him thanks for changing the sentence but at the same time, big deal. Hulett should have gotten the death penalty to begin with. I told Cashman to step down. He's not fit to be a judge. Ashame he doesn't see this.

If you want to write to him, here's the address:

Honorable Edward J. Cashman
Addison District Court
7 Mahady Court
Middleburry, Vermont 05753

JUDGE CASHMAN NEEDS TO GET LOST AND DO SOMETHING ELSE BECAUSE, HE SURE ISN'T HARD ON CRIMINALS THAT'S FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!! THE LITTLE GIRL THAT WAS RAPED FOR FOUR YEARS DIDN'T GET A FAIR SHAKE IN THIS,HE SIMPLY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT LITTLE KIDS. IF THAT HAD BEEN MY LITTLE GIRL I'D HAVE JUDGE CASHMAN SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE WITH THE RAPEST IN THE SAME CELL. HE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM ANY POWER IN LAW. THANK YOU,MARK HOGUE

I think it's time to give the Judge a nice and pleasant colonoscopy with a baseball bat. You better get out the resin bag Cashman, BATTER UP.

You guys call Cashman backward? Your concept of justice is backward. Vengeance is causing pain on people who caused other pain. I was under the impression that causing pain is morally wrong. To enjoy someone's pain is sadistic.

The only purpose of the justice system should be to do the minimum necessary to convince someone not to repeat their crime. That is exactly what Cashman was trying to do. Using the legal system for anything more than that is a government manifestation of sadism. This backward, vengeful idealogy plagues most of a justice system, and I deeply admire Judge Cashman for trying to change the barbaric status quo.

"So, let me get this straight. Say I went up to Vermont, found Judge Cashman's wife, and raped her. (Man, it's hard for me to even write that.) I'm not saying I'm going to, this is just a hypothetical. And say that my reason for raping her was simply to prove a point to her husband.

My guess, and it is just a guess here, is NO BLEEPIN' WAY! I'd rot in that jailhouse."

If that happened, Cashman would most likely not be aloud to preside over the case, with good reason. I'm not a fan of our current legal system, but one thing I do like about it, is that people with emotional ties to cases don't preside over them.

I think that it would be nice Thomas, if things worked the way you see them. However, unfortunately people know and work the system all the time. There are people out there that care nothing about you, or I, or anyone but themselves, how they can gratify themselves and what they can get away with.

I feel bad for a molester's having been molested themselves, possibly "catching" the addiction. That's where my feelings for them stops though. There are people who have been molested, maybe even have had struggles relating to that, and yet do not go on to victimize others.

The problem with letting this fellow off after he repeatedly raped a young girl is that the decision should be hers, or her parents. The Judge could recommend a range of punishment appropriate according to what has been established and then give the victim and/or family the right to make the punishment less severe if they so choose.

Punishment is appropriate and it has always been, in civilized societies, a moderating force, that is keeping people from escalating too much. Eye for an Eye was not cruel, it was to keep someone from taking a life for an eye. The victim of this crime will be stuck with this experience for her entire life. Molesters and pedophiles show an incredibly high recidivism rate, so that combined with all the pain he caused the girl, makes 60 days in jail a ridiculous miscarriage of justice.

So some people want to go lynch the guy, you want to claim the "high road" and fix him. Well, if he rapes you or your child, I propose you have the right to do that. If he rapes me or my child, let me choose, not you, and not some judge who suddenly fancies himself a therapist.

He already violently ripped that girl's rights away. He has to pay for that, it simply has to happen. Criminal justice is not about therapy, you do that for yourself before you go hurt someone. It's crazy to think that one hurts others and then get something positive for it and some people DO see it that way and hence they conduct themselves that way, for their own gain. Prison, go there sometime, it's not filled with well wishing people that simply want to be loved, and we have to manage them , humanely, but not without thought to the pain they have caused.

I was molested from the time I was 14 up until the time I was about 15 and a half and I still wake up in panic attacks from the night terrors. I am now almost twenty and my fiance still has to sit by while I have these terrors and there isnt anything he can do about it except comfort me. We moved 700 miles away from where it all happened and I am still not over it. If this were the judge in my case I would have already shot him. This girls parents have been thru hell with the trial not to mention the poor child herself. This is something a person doesnt get over. EVER! I wish them the best.

Maria, I am a victim of rape when I was 11 years old by a 32 year old"friend of the family". Me and my family found out that there where other girls he had raped but they failed to report him. I am now 59 years old and have not gotten over it yet. I never will. I can recount minute by minute what happen to me over 48 years ago. He hurt me so bad the I was in the hospital for 10 days. He ran to arkansas and they found him and brought him back to Missouri and he pleaded guilty and they gave him 10 years. He then got out in 3 years and came back to the same town where he raped me. He proceeded to break into 2 sisters house, where one was disabled and she was 82 and the other sister was 71 and he raped both of them. I then moved to Kansas City and have lived there ever since. I hope and pray that you will be able to put what happened in the back of your mind and go on with your life. I know it can and will be very difficult for you,but you can do it.Don't let this pervert ruin your entire life. I know what it can do to a person. I went from a happy trusting child to a very messed up person as I got older. There was no one I could trust,no one I could relate to. I hated all people of authority, started drinking in my 30's and now I am alcohol free for over 9 years. He messed my mind up so bad for so many years and I let him but I have taken my life back and not let him have it anymore. God bless you and keep you safe. Stay strong and if need be talk to people about it. It really helps. Donna
