Why We're the Good Guys, Despite Dick Durbin's Yammering

You're a soldier on a routine patrol in Baghdad when an enemy sniper shoots you in the chest. How do you respond?

Well, if you're Army Pfc. Stephen Tschiderer and a medic, you pick yourself up, call in the position of the sniper to the rest of yor team, and when he's wounded and captured by your accompanying Iraqi Army unit, you give him medical treatment.

Tell me again how our soldiers act like Nazis, Mr. Durbin.

Incredibly, the insurgents (Yes, these guys count as insurgents because they attacked a combatant, not a bus filled with children. This is a distinction that the BBC and many other lefties can't quite seem to comprehend.) filmed the attack and the film was captured along with them. You can see it here.

Dick Durbin didn't say that our soldiers act like Nazis.

Ahhh Chris, still splitting hairs. Durbinstated that the interrogation tactics used against the detainees at Gitmo, tactics like loud music and hot and cold temperatures, were tactics that put him more in mind of Nazi Germany, Soviet Gulags ans Dictators like Cambodia's Pol Pot.

Since it is our military who carries out those tactics, the implication was clear that our soldiers were behaving like the Nazi soldiers, etc. Even if you step back and say he was really only talking about the folks who ordered those tactics to be used, i.e. our President, it was decided quite clearly at Nuremburg that "following orders" was no defense, and therefore our sodiers would be equally as guilty.

It's odd that you keep denying that Durbin made this explicit comparison since he himself refused for several days to deny it, even when asked point blank if he actually mean to compare our actions to the Nazis.

Of course, all of this actually sidesteps the main point, that his comparison was a totally unfounded one, way out of line, and offensive to anyone with an ounce of knowledge about the true nature of the Nazi camps, Soviet gulags, or actual interrogation techniques used in Cambodia.

In short, Chris, Durbin tried to attack President Bush by smearing the military, and in the attempt managed to offend nearly every reasonable person on the planet.

Claiming it never happened will not fly.
