Those lovable lefties!

Some members of the party of tolerance, often act more like a rabid dog or a spoiled child than reasoning adults.

Here's an example:

Animal rights advocates will single out small children at performances of "The Nutcracker'' in the next few weeks by handing out fliers saying "Your Mommy Kills Animals'' to youngsters whose mothers are wearing fur. "Children can't look up to a mom in a battered-raccoon hat or a crushed coyote collar,'' said Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. "Maybe when they're confronted by their own children's hurt looks, fur-wearers' cold hearts will melt.''

But wait, they aren't done scaring the poor kids yet:

And the sooner she stops wearing fur, the sooner the animals will be safe. Until then, keep your doggie or kitty friends away from mommy - she's an animal killer.

Courtesy of John Hawkins, here's the flier itself, as depicted on the PETA website.

Yeah, that'll sure win friends and influence people. And lest you think I'm tarring the left with a fringe brush, consider the case of this guy, who made some comments at a lefty website, and had his comments pulled, and his IP banned. (hat tip, Instapundit)

No big deal, you say, DU pulls this kind of stuff all the time, but they're whackos, not mainstream dems.

Well, this wasn't DU, but the official DNC blog. Hard to claim that they are on the fringes of the Democratic Party.

Terrorizing children for their parent's behavior and ruthless suppression of dissent; where have we seen this before?

Oh yeah, I remember now. China. North Korea. Soviet Union. Iraq. Nazi Germany.

Atleast the DNC and the candidates with blogs allow people to leave comments...the official Bush blog doesn't allow comments at all.

Unfortunatelty, yes, now the DNC is the fringe of the Democratic Party.

The rest of us close to the middle feel like our spouse pulled the covers off us in the middle of the night, and we're laying here freezing. But we're still in the bed...

Think of it this way, Rich - PETA and other organizations like it are no longer really Liberals, they're Leftists. They're the ones that hate Bush at all costs, can't understand the reasons for the war, etc. There are still a lot of people with common sense that stayed put instead of drifting way left.

At least I hope there are still a lot of us left (no pun intended)...

Hey Barry,

I'm betting that as the election draws near, more and more of the moderate left will wake up to the hijacking of their party, and launch an effort to take it back. Despite what some might believe, I like a two or more party system. Bureaucracy expands on its own, regardles of which party is in power. Folks who want a small government like me like it most when power is divided. Gridlock is a good thing.

It's hard to restrain the excesses of the party in power when your party is driving itself into total irrelevance.

Manish, is disinformation an improvement over no information? In that case, Tokyo Rose was providing a service to the POW's and should have been commended, not punished.

On the PETA folks ... that is damned desperate to scare children and is tatally wrong. I feel for the animals too and have way too many myself, but leave the kids alone.

Fallacy: Unrepresentative Sample
Definition: The sample used in an inductive inference is relevantly different from the population as a whole.

Chris,

Are you suggesting that the DNC is not representative of all democrats? Isn't that somewhat disingenuous of you? After all, the DNC is the group that sets the party platform. If they aren't representative of the party, doesn't that suggest a severe disconnect on the left?

In any case, your critique is irrelevant, as I never said that the actions I pointed out represented all liberals, just that those carrying out such actions are not exclusive to the fringe.

Rich,

disinformation?!? Get over it..it's a blog. It's run by the DNC for the benefit of Democrats. Having access to the DNC blog implies access to the internet which implies access to many news sources some more biased than others (but all biased to some degree). When you consider that people were quoting commenters on Dean's blog after the capture of Saddam, you can see that it is in the interest of political entities to have some control over what's published on their blogs/websites. The RNC accomplishes this by not allowing comments at all. The various Democrat entities do this by deleting comments. This guy has a blog..he can write whatever he wants there. He doesn't have some inherent right to comment on the DNC blog.
