Here's a great chance for the Bush Administration to show whether or not they are in the pockets of big business. The contracts are coming up for competitive bidding. Halliburton has just been caught cheating.
If they win the next round of contracts, then something really stinks.
And yes, having worked under gov't contract for most of my career, I know full well that what Halliburton did is the rule, not the exception. Graft and corruption are inherent in the contract system.
That doesn't make it right, and I would love to see President Bush take a step towards cleaning it up.
But I'm not going to hold my breath. Chasing multinationals is harder than chasing terrorists.
