Here's a true idiot.
A teenager has lost his sight after being struck in the face with a frog, shot from a so-called "potato gun."Daniel Benjamin Berry, 17, received the injury after he looked down the barrel of the gun's PVC pipe barrel and was hit in the face by the frog. His mother, Lisa Berry, said he's now blind in both eyes. She hopes her family's tragedy serves as a warning to other parents.
First, what the hell was he doing putting a frog in a potato gun. That alone tells me he deserves waht he got.?
Second, why would you look down the barrel of a loaded gun that misfired? This indicates terminal stupidity.
Cruel and stupid?
He got off easy.

Posted by: SayUncle on April 17, 2003 12:05 PMHe's 17. This has nothing to do with his parents, although you could question how they could raise a kid who thought it would be neat to launch a frog out of a potato gun...
Posted by: rich on April 17, 2003 12:33 PMI build and experiment with potato guns, which, to summarize it, i make different designs.
(IE; bolt action potato rifle)
Honestly, I've come up with stupid ideas before, some, i will not disclose, because they are that stupid, but, frogs? looking down the barrel of a prjectile artillery peice? He will be in the darwin awards newest volume, I don't have to assume that.
Potato guns are useful, when used properly, lets say someone is breaking into your home, shoot them with it, and add a little glass shards to be more effective and deadly, but for god's sake, when all it does is "click", don't look down the damn barrel. I have had several experiences where it clicked, and three or four seconds later the potato exploded from the end.
overall, have fun with potato guns, but if you have the IQ of a tatertot, run the hell away from it.
Posted by: Nate on January 3, 2004 11:00 AMunfortunately, there is no cure for stupid....
when I first saw this story, I went "Oh! that poor little frog!" the frog really was the victim here...
that kids a FUCKIN IDIOT!!! I've shot guns since I was 6, and the most important rule is: Dont ever point the muzzle towards anything you dont intend to shoot (Including your own fuckin face, duuuhhh!!!), even if you think the firearm is unloaded.

Potato guns arnt used for home defense they are just made for having fun and shooting them up in the air. Now if somebody wants to put a frog in it that would be pretty damn funny to see a frog going flying in therough the air, and if you feel bad for a stupid little amphimbian, time to grow some balls. Now the kid just made a mistake and overlooked the first rule of firearm safty, which is he pointed to gun in a direction he didnt intend to shoot. Accidents like this happen with all sorts of things, not just potato guns. These things arnt as safe as can be,true, but if you follow firearm safty and take care of it, you shouldnt run into any problems.
