Arafat to hold elections According to the AP, Arafat has called for elections in 4 to 6 months. He is also calling for major reform of the PA. I found this analysis from The Palestinian Chronicle, a pro-Palestine website:
In a speech to the Palestinian Legislative Council in Ramallah Wednesday, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat acknowledged making "mistakes" and called for major reform of the Palestinian Authority.Analysts in Cairo are attributing much of what Arafat said to the influence of other Arab leaders.
Is this a real push for peace, or a well thought out ruse? Do I go with cynicism or blind optimism?
Heck, it's Friday, I'm going to go for optimism.
