Only in America

Only in America Why do we let these guys do this?

A Sandusky man serving a 10-year sentence for raping a patient at the former Providence Hospital is suing both the hospital and his former attorney for negligence, according to Erie County Common Pleas Court records.

Edward Brewer filed suit Monday against Providence Hospital, now part of Firelands Regional Medical Center, for "inadequate security in protecting visitors as well as their patients" which caused him pain and suffering, according to court documents.

He raped her, then claimed the hospital was negligent for allowing him to rape her.

Wait, it gets worse.

Brusnahan represented Brewer for the same incident in November 1999, when Brewer pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery in exchange for prosecutors dismissing a rape charge against him. He was sentenced to the maximum prison term of five years.

Brewer appealed, and the 6th District Court of Appeals in Toledo sent the case back to Erie County Common Pleas Court on the grounds Brusnahan should not have advised his client to agree to the plea bargain.

According to the appeals court, because the victim had died of causes unrelated to the alleged sexual assault, Brusnahan should have realized how weak the case against Brewer was, a theory with which Brusnahan disagreed. Brewer was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was convicted in his second trial in October.

His lawyer gets him 5 years, he screws it up and gets 10, and then wants to sue his lawyer?

I'd give him another 10 years for being an a**, but that's just me.
